It was really hard to pick a favorite technology that I utilize in the classroom. I utilize so many different technologies on a day-to-day basis. One technology that I really love to use is the Promethean Activotes. Above is a video to give you a better understanding of what they look like and how they are used. I use these after I have taught a concept. They are a wonderful tool to use to get immediate feedback from students. I can see immediately who needs one-on-one instruction or just a little more practice with what we are learning. This is a good way to provide a self-paced review (Roblyer/Doering, 2013, p.49). The Promethean Activotes "offer no instructional sequence or tasks but help students complete learning tasks more efficiently" (Roblyer/Doering, 2013, p. 52). The students seem more eager to learn the concept that I will be teaching when they know that we will be using the Promethean Activotes after learning the new concept. Below is a link that will give you more information on them.

Also, if you happen to have a Promethean Board, www.prometheanplanet.com is a great website that you can find many resources on!
I also posted the same video on my Twitter account. My Twitter name is @Hingram3.
This year, I am incorporating Whole Brain Teaching (power teaching) into my classroom. I've heard of it before, and I've watched a few YouTube videos on it. I was a little scared to try it, but now I can't wait to start it! If you haven't heard of it or seen it, go to YouTube and search for Chris Biffle. He is so great! He is one person that I chose to follow on Twitter. His Twitter name is
Hey Heather- such a cool video! There are so many technologies out there that I don't know how to use, but I'm with you- even though I'm scared to try some things, once I do, I can't wait to use them in the classroom! I have a lot to learn, but am anxious to try!
ReplyDeleteThanks for this post. I am going to look into the whole brain training. I haven't had the chance to use activote yet, but I definitely plan to next school year!
ReplyDeleteGreat video! I am attending a Smart response workshop this summer it is similar to the Promethean ActiVote. I think this form of technology is great because it keeps students engaged and as you said you can get immediate feedback. I have never heard of Whole Brain Teaching before seems interesting thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteI am going to take these resources back to my school and inquire about workshops. I have heard of the Whole Brain Teaching, but I have never used it. I agree, it does seem interesting and I will do a little research while we are out for summer break.
ReplyDeleteI love the ActivVotes with Promethean too. For my blog post I shared the Promethean Board with the ActivExpression Student Response in which students can text answers as well as multiple choice. I have not been able to have them in my class but have seen them used. I believe that checking for understanding and continuous assessment is one thing that every teacher can struggle with especially in a large class. These devices really help with these issues.
ReplyDeleteI am glad that you have the opportunity to integrate so much technology in your classroom and just jump right in to try it!
